- And now as you have entered this world, how do you feel being a member of it?
- The feeling that I have entered this world is yet to sink in. Truthfully, I find myself nowhere when I compare myself with stalwarts like Chetan Bhagat or Ravi Subramanium. (I don’t compare with Amish or Ashwin because they are writers of different genre)
- What made you think that your book is different from others? What makes your book special that reader should pick it?
My book’s hero is a Chartered Accountant and deals with corporate fraud. I think this is for the first time that a CA is a protagonist. His two assistants are also CAs. But at the same time the book is not just for CAs since I have kept the technicalities to the minimum. - While writing this book what were your expectations from the book? Were you sure that this book could give wings to your writing career?
I was expecting that the book will be liked by the readers. I was thinking that my job will be to bring readers to the book, once they come, it won’t be possible for them to dislike it. - What do you think of writing as a career? What importance does literature plays in your life?
In India writing as a career is not feasible. The second largest populace nation absolutely lacks readers. I like reading and writing, books are my great friends. - What according to you is the best way to connect to the readers? Words shooting from heart, an extraordinary story or something else?
The best way to connect to the readers is that the story should be enjoyable in the first place. Reading should not become taxing. Story comes at a later stage, initially readers are hooked by easy and beautiful sentences. - Now as your debut book arrives in the market, what do you expect from your readers?
Read it in hoards and send me the reviews. - When you were in the initial phase of the writing journey, what obstacles you faced as a debutant author?
I was a complete novice, didn’t know any professional editor or publisher. It took lot of time to solve these things. - What do you think is the purpose of your writing? What difference does writing makes to your life?
If not writing, then what?
I love writing. Like painting or sculpturing, writing is a creation. My creativity flows through writing - Does at any stage you feel like leaving the script in the halfway. Who would you like to give the credit of being a constant supporter?
- I never thought of giving up. However a few of my friends used to talk to me about the book almost daily, which kept me going on.
- What do you usually prefer-pen, typewriter or computer?
- Only and only computer (Laptop)
- What are the core qualities an author must possess?
- An author should have interest in people, places and situations surrounding him.
- Every journey teaches us a lesson. What are the lessons you’ve learnt while penning your books?
- I found that I love writing and I can do it for hours without getting bore. However a writer needs readers during the writing process. So one must have a few good reader friends.
- Tell us about your latest book.
- THE CLAIM is my latest and only book till now. It is the story of an insurance fraud and the protagonist if a CA. The book is a window for a common man who wants to peek into the corporate world of India. It will show a small portion of that world.
- Does anyone else write in your family or anyone who loves books?
- Nobody writes but my daughter is interested in books and may develop into a writer in future. If she becomes a writer, her writing will be entirely different from mine.
- Tell us about the best compliment you’ve ever received and the criticism given to you as an author.
- Best compliment was when one independent blogger called me as ‘Indian John Grisham’. A hardcore CAs criticized the book saying that you have turned a CA into a detective.
- How much your stories are influenced from real-life stories?
- To a large extent, I write what I see in my daily life.
- These days every author wants to come in the list of ‘Best-selling Authors’? What do you think about it?
- Natural desire, nothing wrong about it.
- Tell us something about your five year goal. Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years?
- I think there will be couple of more book where hero is CA Mohan Mohanty solving another mystery in a corporate setup.
- If given an opportunity, would you like to be a full-time writer?
- Yes.
- How much time do you take to complete a novel? Is ‘patience’ the keyword to become a successful author?
- My first novel took almost five years.
- What is the motive of your writing? Does your work fall under some special category?
- I enjoy writing and category under which my work falls is ‘Detective Fiction’
- Last, but most important question readers would want to know- Are you working on another book? If yes, how different is this from your last work?
- Not at the moment. At present my using all my resources/energies in promoting the first book.
Thank you for sparing your precious time!
We hope you enjoyed the session.
