“Why?” I asked

“Why?” I asked

And then I got to wondering. I asked of fellow man, and of woman too, "Why?" And they simply shrugged and walked away. I asked of the lords of the mountains and the valleys, "Why?" All I heard was my voice echoing back..."Why?"..."Why?"...I then asked of the universe, "Why...Why?" The heavens simply moved in their courses and that was all.

Finally, I chanced to look within. "Why?' I asked timidly..."Why?"...and heard the answer I'd been looking for...All along it was me and no other. I wept and cried with laughter. Me! Yes, me! It all came down to me. Never mind any other.

The heavens went their way and I went mine. And that was that.
