How horribly wrong can a boy’s dream of owning a pair of full pants go? Set in a small town in Andhra Pradesh, Ranga Half-Pants is a breath-taking, coming-of-age tale of courage, love and friendship.

Ranganathan aka Ranga, 14, goes to school after Dasara holidays to discover that he is the only boy in his class still wearing half-pants. All the other boys have moved on to full trousers making Ranga the butt of cruel jokes and bullying. Things reach a real low when his arch-nemesis, Joel, becomes friends with Ranga’s best friend, Kaivalya.
Prasad, 24, is a man forced to live by the sword. Now he wants to give it all up for the love of his life, Tabassum. His rivals, however, have other plans for him.

The worlds of Ranga and Prasad clash on a fateful, violent night. Will Ranga get his full pants? Will Prasad outwit his foes?

Review :

'Half-Pants' ,this word amazed me when I first picked this book. How would you feel when you get to know you are the only one wearing half -pants in a classroom? Getting a full trouser might mean nothing to some of us.But here, it was the protagonist's(Ranga)  dream to own a pair of full pants. This novel shows how for a normal middle class family ,buying a pair of full pants is not that easy.  Maangalyam ,which is everything for a married woman and is a sacred symbol of marriage, is put at stake to make a living. This book is a tale of Ranga 's desire to own a pair of full pants,  transformation of Prasad for Tabassum 's love, and the revenge and hatred of Chanti. At the end, the plot turns violent.

'Everything is a weapon,thammudu. Rocks, mud,pickle ,mirchi powder,everything'
From the entire novel, this line caught my attention. I can connect myself to it.Further, the author describes that 'it meant even a blade of grass is a weapon for a wise man. So true!' The novel ends with Ranga 's realization that her mother's Maangalyam is more important than his own dream of owning a pair of full pants. What he did is justified. If I were him, I would have done same. But the happiest part is that his dream gets fulfilled at the end-the dream of owning a pair of full pants. So, the novel ends at a happy note of Ranga's dream coming true and Prasad getting his love ,Tabassum.
