Sucheta glanced at her watch impatiently; she had been
waiting for him to show up for the last twenty minutes or so. She smiled
suddenly remembering how she would make him wait years ago and he would wait
patiently for her. She couldn't for a moment recall why they had broken up in
the first place, it was such a long time ago...life hadn't been fair to them
and she wanted to set things right. She had traveled all over India, trying to
write about her journeys of discovery and exploration of remote exquisite
places in the country...she had to leave years ago to try out her passion, her
soul full of possibilities of the future and now that she had finished writing
her first travel book she felt the ache of home sickness, of Amit...She smiled
wistfully, remembering their courtship, their violent fights and passionate
love making, her exuberance and his stillness, they were the perfect balance of
energies....but ten years ago when she decided to leave him and their life
together to follow her path of self discovery, the spell was broken, the
perfect harmony destroyed....Often in the early years she felt she couldn't go
on without him and thought of returning, but often enough she was too caught in
the moment to think about him and time moved them to . She was not sure how
things would go when she had called him up out of blue last week, what he would
say...but he seemed the same, the calm half of her agitated self...Before letting
him get too pragmatic, she impulsively asked him to meet her at their favourite
haunt and to her surprise he agreed...so there she was waiting for him after
such a long time, people say some things never change but sometimes they
do....She felt herself losing in the poignant memories of their romance as she
stared at her hands, the sunlight caught in her soft curly hair, her slightly
bent head directing her gaze towards the wooden floor.
He still had his hand on the door knob, still
struggling with his decision, his thoughts ran wild, why did she call him? why
come back after so long? And there she sat pretty as a picture, unaware of his
heartache, the storm inside him...Finally strengthening his resolve, he turned
his back and started to walk away. A sudden desire to look back gripped him and
he gave himself up to the feeling, slowly turning his head to look at her
again...
Sucheta was feeling a little uneasy now, it was so
unlike of Amit to make her wait that too for so long, she was worried that he
may have changed his mind. A bitter feeling of loneliness and regret threatened
to swallow her whole, were they really done? Did they not deserve one moment
more of their long lost love? Her eyes were filling with hot tears as she
looked around, finally catching a glimpse of him looking at her behind the
glass...
In
a rain swept night,
Blinded
by thunder and light,
I
decided I would try,
To
win your heart again,
Hoping the rain would mask my pain....
Regret
is a word which cannot be confused with hate,
The
emotion though could run similar, such ironic fate,
The
dream which ended could be much beloved,
The ending maybe bitter and in vain.
A
world with such thin glass separating fiction and fact,
Has
a glass dirty, smudged with dirt in fact,
The
difference is a nuance,
A knowing glance.
