Canada – the land of beautiful lakes, opportunities and umm... scores of desis (aren't we just everywhere?). What happens when a young man gets a one-way ticket to the hallowed country? When you're saat samundar paar, even a modest course at a community college becomes a gateway for merriment and learning... of a totally different kind. And so it did, with Gaurav. An Australian flatmate, fellow students from Nigeria and Bangladesh and an employer from Kazakhstan lead him on a journey of epic escapades and much self-discovery. And when you're looking to earn some pocket money, odd jobs just have to do. From a curious DJing gig that turns out slightly different than expected to becoming a walking salesman clad in a sandwich board, there's no dearth of drama. Jump right in, for Keeping Up With Kaneda is an adventure in itself.

My Views:
The Punjabis and The Kaneda, we all know the brisk and crisp relationship between them. 'Keeping up with Kaneda' as the title hints is a story of a Punjabi Guy who went to Canada for further studies and manages his stay there by opting different conditions and situations. He shares his list of experiences with his readers and gets the reader friendly with the chilly winds of Canada.
Finding odd jobs to spare money for the expenses are what you gonna fetch at the beginning of the book, and later you'll discover many of his attempts to gain his living out there. It covers as how our protagonist switches multiple jobs and what made him quit(or got fired from) the others. I leave this for you, do read out to find the reasons.
Some of his experiences and some of his friends' tales he chanced upon to meet in Canada are made a part of this book. Reading his personal life experiences in Canada and his tales that got shaped up there was kinda nice, but reading out his friend's story didn't prove that nice. When I was reading that part, I felt like skipping that part, as I rarely know about those characters, so putting myself in their shoes as a reader was one toilsome task.
The positive and negative point of this book is inclined towards the same angle, it's theme! The positive part is; you can find very very few books in the market which can come near to its theme. So, it somehow stands out as it makes its unique identification. On the other hand, very few readers can be found interested in exploring a book covering such a theme.
I'm pretty sure that if any of you are looking forward to moving Canada, you must be in search of someone who could give you tits and tats about the place, and some Do's and don'ts for Indians. Your targeted Canadian friend can help you with some stuff, summing up in few minutes. But, if you want to have a feel of being there before landing there, then you can hear out Gaurav's story.
