Review of Let Me Go

Title: Let Me Go

Author: Sriram Iyer

Blurb:

A boy and a girl can become friends.
But can they remain friends forever?
When Anshuman Kale first meets Indira Kelkar, all it takes to bring them close is a lost school bag, a missed school bus leading to a walk back home and a few cutlets to beat the after-school hunger. As the now best friends grow up together, there is nothing that can come between their friendship. Or so they think!
At the climax of their teenage years, as Indira falls in love with a guy five years older, she finds herself caught between friendship and love—neither of which she can let go. But as their lives begin to take a turn—for good, for bad and for the worse—Anshuman is forced to rethink one of the things he had considered a given: ‘he and Indira would be best of friends forever.’
Now estranged for years, Anshuman is looking forward to marrying the love of his life, while Indira is waiting to hear back on her euthanasia appeal. What could have gone so wrong that she wants to end her life?
As their lives intersect once again, how far will Anshuman go for Indira?

My Views:

I think there are very few books in the market that tells a tale of friendship.Friendship, a strange relationship which can go beyond any limit, but still bounds to some clutches created by the society. I'm actually quite irritated with the same melodrama flooding in every second Indian fiction novel.Love, romance, break-up and the end! Exceptions are rare to find these days, especially when so many books make their way in the publishing industry.

First look at the cover of the book, and again it seemed like another love story with a bunch of friends and same melodrama. I was planning to read this book a little later when I would have been left with nothing to read, but something made me read this book. And, the journey after that is beyond my expectations.

The relationship between a girl and a guy can not only be termed as friends, especially in India. There are always fingers raising at this beautiful relationship that the two souls share. Shriram's latest release, 'Let Me Go' is all about the love of friendship, showing a pristine and pure bond our protagonist Aashu and Indu shared. As usual, there were fingers pointing to their relationship, but all the hiccups pushed aside when the broken friendship again started to bloom.

It was just a matter of a page or two, and I was pretty sure about the quality of the book. I could see reflections of his vivid thoughts in his words, carried with great charm and lucidly placed to be fed by the readers.I must say that Sriram is very clever to keep the reader on an edge. He juxtaposed present and past events and made the journey more engrossing.

Some stories are just not mere tales written to be told, they are a life given to the characters that started to exist in the real world for the readers. For me, the story that 'Let Me Go' tells is one of them. This is one such story that can tag you in its wraps. He narrates every facet of the story flawlessly. I didn't feel like I was reading words, not for a second, it was like a life-journey  I was blessed to see. He very wisely plays with the characters. I will look forward to reading more of Shriram's writings.

I'm sure, you'll love the way he shaped his thoughts and presented this beautiful and engaging story. I could still feel the essence of the story while writing its review. Such a lasting impact it had on me.
