Hues of Modern Love by Paras Bandha

It’s better if I start with ….

Once upon a time, Rohit (my best pal) and I were on bike ride. After I wrote my debut novel in 2011 and it was under processing, I was planning for next novel. I will not say that this novel is mine, actually this novel is ours. It started with a discussion actually. We were both partner in crime. Whatever we did, we use to do it together. We were friends cum brothers. The bond we share, hardly anyone does and that was true.

Rohit: - (while driving Bike) so what’s your plan for next novel?

Me:- well, I don’t have any plan right now, do you got any?

He kept mum for some time and then…

He pop out … let us confess paras… he said.

“Confess?” I questioned.

“Personally, I think, we should write down all our love and breakups in one book. He said.

“Not a bad idea” I replied.

With this we started thinking and discussing about our personal relationship. After half hour of discussions and laughing continuously from the shit we did, we finally realize what broth we both had cooked so far. We were silent.

He questioned “paras, Can we confess now?”

I was silent and the smile faded quickly. May be that’s quiet late for apology to be asked from all the girls we ditched.

“What’s the alternative?” he conformed.

“revenge” I replied … “the main character will take the revenge from both the guys later on, I added.

“so this will be the crime story?” he questioned. “and do you want that we should suffer from the things we did earlier?” he added.

“yes” I replied and we exchange idiotic smiles.

So from here it all started, it took three more months to decide the title and we finalized it as “I love breakups”. We spend more than four full weekends and were tired of writing and compiling our ideas. I thought to give it a break for next couple of month. That’s a right saying “Money matters” but when money comes in between relations than it spoils everything. Royalty came in between us and we broke up.

So this time I was alone in between the journey. I was hungry to release my book at any cost but then it was in complete. The main beautiful girl was missing out somewhere. My eyes were searching her.

Meanwhile, I keep on knocking doors from one publisher to another and then to another, though the manuscript wasn’t completed. After period of thirteen months, one of the publishers agreed to publish my work but it went useless again.

I started searching for the newly emerging publishers. I found a Mumbai based publisher and they got my banners done, title was finalized and the editing was done within a period of next four months. It was end of 2014 when everything was going good.

All which lacked was a good feeling somewhere, I still remember the day; it was Thursday when the publishers forwarded me the edited/proof read sample. I found that edit sample, inappropriate and told one of my friend that I didn’t loved the editing done. She was somehow linked with those publishers.

She told them. If I am not wrong, she might have disclosed single and even penny information to them. They void my contract. I was shattered because I wasn’t expecting such kind of behavior from anyone. It was my mistake and I accept that but then if I can’t tell my publishers that the edit done is not up to the mark then I think that’s not my mistake at all. My only fault was I just told someone else and I regret that.

As I was running short of money and was jobless so they were the only one who agreed to publish my book on traditional basis.

Jobless, shattered and no money in bank account but a passion somewhere to launch my book.

May be I was stubborn or adamant enough that I didn’t feel like quit.

With all new hope, I started searching for any publisher and after struggling for six months I reached at a point. They are known as “author’s ink publishers.” I managed to get ten thousand rupees as a start up money and had a word with ROHTAK based publisher. He agreed to publish my book at such a low cost.

After saving my edited format of “I love breakups” I came across a thing that edit format has somehow merged with my earlier work. This directly means that I have to get the edit done again.

I don’t know why was I continuing with all these things, knowingly it will not help me either, I can’t be popular at any cost but then back end of my mind a thought was tinkling “ I want to do it, it gives me satisfaction, creating stories is my charisma, it gives me peace”

My mind told me to stop thinking much and give it a second try. Slowly and steadily I will get it done. It was a new hope, new beginning and again an initial start.

Aniket told me that “I love breakups” for this story isn’t appropriate so I agreed to what he said and we finalized to change it. We organized a title wining competition and readers from all over Delhi supported us. Devyani rana gave this book a title named “hues of modern love”

I was happy to finalize it but it wasn’t over here. Next step was the back bone of this entire book.

“The main cover”. Ten book covers were rejected and finally I decided not to disturb “ajitabose” any more and I decided for simpler page cover. Everyone loved it.

Thousands of hours utilized (I will not say wasted), millions of thoughts before publishing and then those negative feelings. Overcoming everything my love was in my hands which took me 5 years and 3 months to publish it. That long distance and finally I am here, writing the making of the book.

A short note to neyha nayyar:-

When I was stuck in between somewhere in the novel where I couldn’t define the beautiful girl of my novel, god gave me a surprise and he introduced her in my life. She was “neyha”. We were the best pal and I was damn attached to her because of her incredible beauty.

When I was not having any words to continue, she helped me a lot. The character of neha in my book is directly related with her. Each and everything we shared in past two years while we were best pals, I mentioned the same in the book.

A big thanks to you neyha.

Maybe now she will come to know that she was one among those three characters of book.

Time is 2:05 a.m. and I can’t sleep before telling thankyou to three people, rohit singh, neyha nayyar and to you Naaz farhaa.
