Please, Don’t LOVE me…, written by Prakash Mahato, the leading character of the story belongs to a middle class Hindu family. He is from a small town Jamshedpur, a steel city, a town which is planned much before. He was enjoying the joy of clearing his matriculation with a good percentage. He is a fun loving boy, never been serious for his life and is a much naughty boy. Between classes, someone from the back answered present sir. It was a very charming voice, which just diluted Prakash’s mind. She was looking damn charming in her navy blue jeans and white kurti, which got perfectly aligned over her curves making her 100 percent to give her a classy look.
When the results came Nazmin shocked seeing his marks scored, he was the topper in the class, several times fails to score that, but maximum times he scored. They both know much about each other. The both meet daily, had a long chat and after some days they become good friends. Prakash didn’t believe in loves, crushes and all other such things. Prakash and Nazmin coming closer to each other day by day, not even once thought that she is a girl from other religion, a Muslim girl. He was out of the world and can’t realize what was happing with him.
For a moment, everything around him was blurred. Time seemed to have come to a standstill. Her beautiful, round face was flushed red with energy. Something fluttered inside his stomach. They both started liking each other. Both started visiting each other’s house, in between Prakash’s family opposing them to meet. Prakash scored a good percentage in their final exams and was the fourth topper of the University. Things seem to be all handy-dandy and working in his favor, when destiny decides to ruin his happiness and intervene in the love affair. A day comes when Prakash proposed her, she too agreed. Nazmin’s mother were in support of Prakash, but just after the Deganga riots, they were afraid of this inter religious love. Nazmin’s mother strictly told Nazmin to stay away from his daughter, and Nazmin followed her mother. Nazmin went far away from him. Whereas Prakash searched whole country and found Nazmin in Kolkata, he tried to meet her, tried to talk with her, but her answer was a No, this is because of the inter religious relations between Hindus and the Muslims. Completely heart-broken, Prakash picks up the pieces of his broken heart and contemplates the situation that has struck him. But unfortunately, he cannot grasp the notion to resist and conquer the conflict between his heart and his concept of right and wrong. Prakash’s trials are endless - as he hopes for destiny to be molded to his favor.
Will Prakash be successful in being able to move on and build a fresh start with Nazmin? Or will destiny keep him caged in his misery? This is the exciting story of finding love and inter religious relation between this two religions. (taken from Pustak Mandi)
Reader's View :'Please,Don't Love me!' ; is a story inspired from Chetan Bhagat's novels.Before turning the pages of the book, I didn't know how the story would be like.But, after seeing CB's name in the acknowledgement section,I was pretty sure that this book would be serving something dealing with a social issue and something romantic. I was all set to go through the words of CB's fan,Prakash Pakiya.
At places,protagonist's feelings speak of love for the girl Nazmin, but at places it speaks of just friendship.It seems like protagonist himself is not sure of what he actually wants.Considered, he doesn't want others to know about his feelings for the girl or he himself is not accepting his feelings for her, but the reader wants to have a clear picture of what protagonist is actually having in mind.
It's the story of a boy whose predetermined thoughts fails before love.It's quite a common plot which doesn't approach the reader at its best.There are many things which are missing- like soul-stirring, interesting events, language and many more,In short, if the author wants to come out with something which could touch the reader's heart. he should come out with something more interesting and engaging.
More work needs to be done to sharpen his writing skills, which I'm pretty sure he would do in his next book.
