THE FYUP MESS
The new system had been introduced at Delhi University. The normal three year graduation program was now replaced with four year undergraduate program. So two of the subjects in each semester were main subjects and four of them were additional subjects. However, even the marks of the additional subjects were to be included in the final mark sheet. And the additional subjects were like asking a “Vegetarian” eat “Non-Veg food”. So, in B.Com (Hons), we were studying History, English, Science and some other unrelated subjects. Students were supposed to make project reports, participate in debates, make power point presentations, etc. etc. The idea seemed fair enough as it was meant to give exposure and make the students independent but the lack of implementation and requisite resources made it the biggest failure. Karanvir’s words were perhaps, the most appropriate. He said, “Bro, we are like rat traps, as the rats are trapped and are used in checking and trying latest experiments, whether they are working or not. Same way the experiments are done on us. At first, it was “CCE”, now it’s “FYUP”. Saare experiments humare sath hi kyun?” Marks were given for those discussions, debates and group presentations which never took place. And the worst part was that everyone in the group got equal marks whether he/she did any work in the group or not.
To top it all, the students in the groups were from B.Com, Economics, English, History, Political Science, etc. etc. etc. Thankfully, Ayush and Jasmine were in the same group. They enjoyed during projects together, planned the discussions and debates together. Soon they became best of friends. As expected, Karanvir started feeling a bit neglected and expressed his emotions with the famous dialogue, “Yeh hi dosti, yeh hi pyaar, dosti ke beech aa gayi na chokri ki diwaar”. Ayush used to avoid these taunts of Karanvir and told him that they are just best friends and to top it all, she just finds me cute, that’s it!!” “Bro, being cute in a girl’s dictionary is not a good sign for any boy. Being cute indirectly means, hey dude, you have no chance, so don’t even think about it” were the wisdom words of Baba Karanvir. “Whatever Karanvir, leave it bro, it’s time to leave for home” said Ayush. Karanvir in his witty style enquired from Ayush if he has taken permission from Jasmine for going back home.
THE FEST SEASON
“Toh bhai, iss baar kaun aa raha hain fest pe”. This was the most common question that everyone was asking the College President. Most excited were the students of First Year. Plans were being worked out and a list of the most happening fests of Delhi University was getting prepared. So, Arijit was performing at Miranda, Mohit Chauhan at Ramjas, Diljit at SGTB, and Raftaar at Rajdhani College. Fests are a very important part of a student’s life; it is actually a kind of re-union for the school mates as well.
So, finally it was announced that Jassi Sidhu was coming at SGND. The College President posted on the official page of the College. So, all the students were checking over internet what all songs Jassi Sidhu had sung. Both Ayush and Jasmine were in the Organizing Team. Actually, it was Jasmine who had joined the Commerce Society “Vanaj” and Ayush just joined it in order to spend some more time with her.
It was a great experience for both Ayush and Jasmine; they looked for Sponsors, were making arrangements in order to make the fest memorable for all. They used to spend most of their time together, looking out for as many sponsors as they could for the events. They worked as a team and they were great in that. While Jasmine’s looks and her style worked great in wooing the shopkeepers of Karol Bagh, Ayush had great conversation skills which could easily impress anyone. They used to study together, eat together and make preparations for the fest together. Most of the times, they used to eat at the eating joints of Karol Bagh, which was like a second home for them. Both of them had great passion for eating different kinds of food and clicking selfies together.
So, finally it was the day of the fest. The society members were asked to reach sharp at 8’o clock in the morning in order to look out for the arrangements. Both Ayush and Jasmine reached college, wearing their casual clothes. They bought in different clothes along with them, which they would change after finalizing the arrangements. While Ayush was busy with the Sound and Technical department, Jasmine was looking after the Stage Management. After giving final touches to the arrangements, they both did final touch up of themselves; changed their clothes and got ready for the fest.
Ayush opted for a cream blazer and black denims, Jasmine looked stunning in an Anarkali suit. She had kept her hair open, the way Ayush used to like. And soon the guests started arriving. Karanvir opted for a black leather jacket and blue jeans along with a black turban. Three of them clicked loads of pictures; selfies, groupfies together as they waited for the chief performer for the day. Soon the moment arrived; Jassi Sidhu was finally on the stage. He sag various songs with great energy; his hit numbers like, “Veer Ji Vihaon Chaleya, Chandigarh kare aashiqi”.
The crowd went ballistic as he belted some of his awesome chartbusters. Ayush had danced for the first time and too because Jasmine forced him to do. Karanvir was so surprised seeing Ayush dance and told Jasmine that she should get a Nobel Prize for that. He told Jasmine, “Where are your feet maatey? I just want to touch them; we tried so hard on our school farewell, but he didn’t moved an inch”. Ayush was just smiling, looking at Jasmine as she looked so graceful and beautiful. Maybe Ayush had developed feelings for Jasmine or maybe it was the time which they had spent together that he always think about her. Whatever it was; Ayush was having the best time of his life.
